Nelson Jay, BAS, Gavelo Auctions, LLC
Fundraising Auctioneer Nelson Jay is a graduate of the
Missouri Auction School and the University of Washington. He is an active
member of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) and holds the Benefit
Auctioneer Specialist (BAS) designation from the NAA. Nelson has been a
presenting speaker at the annual NAA Conference and Show and a host committee
member and panelist at the 2016 NAA Benefit Auction Summit. He is pleased to be
working with the NAA and auctioneer colleagues as a planning team member of the
2017 NAA Benefit Auction Summit. He has appeared on industry podcasts, guest
blog posts and in-person fundraising seminars.
Nelson is an avid cyclist and has had the opportunity
to bicycle in Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, Massachusetts, New Mexico
as well as in Canada, Denmark, France, Sweden, and Japan. He is a member of
Team R4C, a Seattle-based non-profit cycling club that raises funds for causes
and cure research. In July 2017 Nelson will be cycling from London to Paris on
a 3-day fundraising ride with R4C teammates.
“I believe cycling is a wonderful metaphor for both
life and fundraising – keep moving, stick together, help each other, work hard
and be prepared to suffer a bit – the outcome makes it all the more
worthwhile,” says Auctioneer Nelson.
Nelson lives in Seattle, WA with his wife Tiffany and
three children. Away from the auction block, you can find Nelson somewhere in
the outdoors with his family – cycling, skiing, hiking, traveling or tending
the backyard hens.
